SteerFW offers a number of different programs throughout the year in addition to our monthly social events in which you can mingle with like-minded peers. Our programs include Keyholders, GenerationNext, Candidate Forums, Policy & a Pint, Civic Summit, Elected Officials, and community volunteering. Learn more about each below.

Keyholders is a fast-track civic engagement program. Keyholders participants will attend five focused evening sessions throughout the summer and early fall that cover key aspects of Fort Worth, including history, government, economic development, and civic engagement. At each session Keyholders participants will have the opportunity to learn from and network with local leaders in these core topics.

The program culminates with an event allowing Keyholders participants to network and potentially match up with local community organizations that can benefit from a young professional's involvement. Past positions have included Board of Directors shadow seats, marketing, community outreach, etc. The focus of Keyholders is to move participants quickly towards engaging in the city and its organizational infrastructure.

Our 2021 Keyholders Program is no longer accepting applications and will kickoff in May!

GenerationNext: State of Your City is our annual event tailored for young professionals in which Mayor Betsy Price and city leaders come together to discuss pertinent issues facing Fort Worth both currently and in the future. Last year, GenerationNext: State of Your City was held on April 18th at Rahr and Sons Brewing.

In addition to GenerationNext, we offer many other civic engagement-related events throughout the year in which you can learn more from city leaders and organizations in a more casual setting. These include our Lunch and Learn and Policy and a Pint series. Keep up with our calendar or follow us across social media to join us there.

Policy & a Pint is a way for us to keep you involved with what is going on with certain policies in Fort Worth. We meet at a local business for a pint or two to give our support and then learn more about what is going on behind the scenes in the city. We want to keep our generation and the ones to come to be involved and able to have conversations about public policy in Fort Worth.

We want to get to know the men and women we elected into office in Fort Worth, so we host an Elected Officials Night to give you that chance. The SteerFW Annual Elected Officials Reception is an opportunity for emerging leaders, community engagers, and local business to meet and mix with area elected and appointed government officials.

The Tarrant County Elected Officials Reception convenes local, state, and national leaders with the local business and civic community in the 20 to 40 demographic. It is the largest non-partisan gathering of Elected Officials in Fort Worth.

Every year, SteerFW hosts more than 150 young professionals, community leaders, and other engaged citizens from across Tarrant County in an informal setting, allowing for enhanced communication and engagement.

You should know who you are voting for each election. Our City Council and Mayor that we elect to serve the city are in charge of deciding how our tax dollars are spent. They set the budgets. We need to know what their priorities are.

That's why we host a candidate forum, which allows you to attend a moderated forum for candidates running for City Council and Mayor. They can answer questions about policies, goals, and whatever residents want to know. We want you to be informed before you drop that ballot.

This year we are hosting 3 moderated forums for this years election on May 1st. The first forum is for City Council members running for Districts 2-5 on March 18th, the second is City Council members running for districts 6-9 on April 7th, and the last one for our Mayoral candidates on April 21st. Register on Eventbrite to receive meeting details. Visit our Facebook page for details.

SteerFW offers multiple volunteer opportunities per year. Most recently, we have worked together to renovate local schools and neighborhoods; provided support at community events including The Cowtown Marathon, the North Texas Wellness Fair, and Rockin' the River; and provided for those in need through organizations including the Tarrant Area Food Bank and Cowboy Santas. You can find future event dates here on our calendar page, in the Weekly Steer, and across social media.
