Programs
LET'S GET CIVIC FORT WORTH
SteerFW offers a number of different programs throughout the year in addition to our monthly social events in which you can mingle with like-minded peers. Our programs include Keyholders, GenerationNext, Candidate Forums, Policy & a Pint, Civic Summit, Elected Officials, and community volunteering. Learn more about each below.
KEYHOLDERS PROGRAM
Keyholders is a fast-track civic engagement program. Keyholders participants will attend six focused evening sessions throughout the summer and early fall. The sessions cover key aspects of Fort Worth, including history, government, economic development and civic engagement. At each session Keyholders participants will have the opportunity to learn from and network with local leaders in these core topics.
The program culminates with an event allowing Keyholders participants to network and potentially match up with local community organizations that can benefit from a young professional's involvement. Past positions have included Board of Directors shadow seats, marketing, community outreach, etc. The focus of Keyholders is to move participants quickly towards engaging in the city and its organizational infrastructure.
GENERATION NEXT
A SteerFW hosted event that brings in City Leadership to report on the City’s economic status, legislative agenda, and regional priorities to our Members
POLICY & A PINT
Policy & a Pint is a way for us to keep you involved with what is going on with certain policies in Fort Worth. We meet at a local business for a pint or two to give our support and then learn more about what is going on behind the scenes in the city. We want to keep our generation and the ones to come to be involved and able to have conversations about public policy in Fort Worth.
CIVIC SUMMIT
Our annual Civic Summit event (previously called “Steer the City”) is a day for young professionals and city leaders to come together to discuss important issues facing Fort Worth both currently and in the future.
ELECTED OFFICIALS NIGHT
We want to get to know the men and women we elected into office in Fort Worth, so we host an Elected Officials Night to give you that chance. The SteerFW Annual Elected Officials Reception is an opportunity for emerging leaders, community engagers, and local business to meet and mix with area elected and appointed government officials.
The Tarrant County Elected Officials Reception convenes local, state, and national leaders with the local business and civic community in the 20 to 40 demographic. It is the largest non-partisan gathering of Elected Officials in Fort Worth.
Every year, SteerFW hosts more than 150 young professionals, community leaders, and other engaged citizens from across Tarrant County in an informal setting, allowing for enhanced communication and engagement.
CANDIDATE FORUMS
You should know who you are voting for each election. Our City Council and Mayor that we elect to serve the city are in charge of deciding how our tax dollars are spent. They set the budgets. We need to know what their priorities are.
That's why we host a candidate forum, which allows you to attend a moderated forum for candidates running for City Council and Mayor. They can answer questions about policies, goals, and whatever residents want to know. We want you to be informed before you drop that ballot.
VOLUNTEERING
Typically, SteerFW offers six major volunteer opportunities per year -- usually about one every two months. You can find updates, event dates, and context either here, in the Weekly Steer, or on our social media.
